What is a Designer?

Job description

Your primary job function will be to design new websites that have been sold. You will NOT be required to market or sell websites, but will need to be able to keep up with a fast growing design agency. You will also need to help with service requests. Once you reach "Level 1 Designer" have been trained and feel confident, you will be given the opportunity to be the “lead” on websites which will require you to handle the building of the website from start to launch. All website designs will have to be approved by Keenan before they are published.

So what is KB Designs? Simply put we are a marketing company. Web Design is the hook to get small businesses in the door. We offer quality websites at a price that small business owners can afford. That's just the start of our relationship with our clients, though. Once they are onboard we offer them ongoing web servicing, graphic designs, market analysis and marketing tips and tricks to help them grow their businesses. We are a full service marketing agency that specializes in the growth of small businesses.

What are we looking to get from you? Breath taking website designs. KB Designs is all about building websites that captivate through good graphics, images, motion and through an intuitive interface. I am looking for designers that can build stunning websites that are intuitive and easy to use with good marketing principals in place. On-going training will be required for this position. I will provide this training in the form of videos, books, audio books, and seminars. Training will be assigned and discussed in monthly and weekly meetings.

Who are we looking for?

  • Someone that is driven and wants to work for a company that is going places fast!

  • Upbeat positive attitude. Negativity is like cancer in a work environment. No one likes cancer... don't be cancer.

  • Strong goal oriented personality.

  • Someone that wants to have fun at work while still achieving their goals.

  • Ability to handle a large task list (Quest Log) with the ability to prioritize tasks well.

  • Can sit at a desk for long periods of time.

  • You will need to be able to communicate well with people. It's super important to be able to ask good questions to lock onto a vision for the client while driving the design conversation and infusing your vision for the site and the businesses brand.

  • Previous design experience is a plus but not required. I am willing to train the right candidate if you posses a "winning attitude" and a strong desire to join the team.

  • You will need to be "tech savvy." You should be able to intuitively trouble shoot software programs. Training will be provided but a knowledge of tech will be extremely helpful.

  • You will need to be able to work from home and from the office. This is a "hybrid" position.

  • Team player. This company is run like one big team. Just like a football team has an offense and a defense, KB Designs has Producers and Designers. Each are equally important if we want to be successful in "The Infinite Game."

So, what's the compensation?

The Training Grounds

(Not always required for designers)

Pay Per Service

  • This will be considered the “trial period” for both of us. This will give the designer and the owner time to make sure things are a good fit.

  • This is a 90 day maximum period that can be used to transition into a "Leve 1 Designer" position.

  • "The Training Grounds" is used when KB Designs has more work than the full time designers can handle but not enough to justify another full time position.

Compensation

  • A dollar amount will be assigned to each quest. The Designer will be paid twice a month for quests completed in each pay period.

Work Hours

  • Set your own schedule. The training grounds is the ultimate position for people that need maximum flexibility in their schedule. You will only be required to work from the office one day a week for a minimum of 4 hours. The rest of the time you will be able to work from home on your own schedule.

  • Some quests will have a deadline and will need to be completed before the deadline. Other quests may be recurring quests with no specific deadline. (At KB Designs "tasks" are called "quests." This is because we use "The Infinite Game" as the foundation of our bonus structure and use it to "gamify" the work environment.)

Bonus

  • I'm a HUGE believer in bonus! I plan on making bonus opportunities available as long as I own the company. It's the best way to motivate staff in the direction the company needs to move.

  • The bonus structure at KB Designs is tiered with larger bonuses being made available at each tier achieved. YOU ARE ONLY ELIGIBLE FOR "BONUS LEVEL 1" IN THE TRAINING GROUNDS. All other bonus levels become available once you achieve "Level 1 Designer." More details about bonus will be made available during the interview process.

After 90 Days

  • At the end of your 1st 90 days we will review your work together and make a determination of how we should move forward.

  • If we both feel this is a good fit, you want to work full time and your work performance is to the standards that I have set, you will be promoted to "Level 1 Designer." (If the need is there and your work performance has been quality, you may be offered a full time position before the end of the 90 days.)

  • If at the end of the 1st 90 days you decide that you really like the flexibility of the schedule, you may be given the option to continue in the The Training Grounds depending on company staffing needs. I strive to make KB Designs a place that people want to work and I understand that willingness to be flexible with people's personal lives is key to creating a stress free work environment. With that said, I am building a strong company and want to hire people that want to build a strong company with me.

  • If at the end of 90 days either of us think this isn't a good fit, we'll say our goodbyes and wish each other the best of luck.

Level 1 Designer

Job description

At KB Designs we're a little nerdy. We're techy people so I figured why not lean into it. I used the concept of "The Infinite Game" to create our bonus structure. Level 1 Designer is where every Designer starts after making it out of the training grounds. This is a full time salaried position with, bonus and benefits. Not all designers will have to go through The Training Grounds. If the staffing need is there, and i feel yo meet the qualification, you may be offered a "Level 1 Designer" position from day 1.

As a Level 1 Designer you will still be responsible for completing quests in a timely manner but you will also be eligible to be the "Lead" on a design project. This means you will need to be able to speak with clients about the design and lead a team of designers in completing a website in a timely manner. All designs must be approved by Keenan before they can be released to clients.

You may also have the opportunity to complete graphic design quests. This is a service that will become available for clients at the end of 2025. Training in certain design programs will be available but knowledge with graphic design software is a major plus.

Compensation

$3,000 Per Month Salary

  • This is a full time salaried position.

  • This job also comes with a company lap top and cell phone.

Bonus (General Rules)

  • Bonus as a Level 1 Designer is calculated on a point system. Producers and Designers both collect Bonus Points for completing quests.

  • The points you and other team members collect go towards unlocking different bonusses.

Monthly Bonus

  • Monthly bonus is paid out once per month and is based on team production goals and individual goals.

  • There are 3 levels to this bonus. Each level gives you a higher percentage of total monthly sales from website packages and service contracts, divided evenly amongst qualifying staff. That means you make more money the more you are able to accomplish with as few people on staff as possible. The less people on staff, the fewer people there will be to split monthly bonuses with.

  • More details about this bonus will be given after you are on the team.

Gold Star Bonus

  • Each month this bonus is unlocked once the team reaches a certain amount of bonus points.

  • Once "unlocked" random Gold Star Bonusses will appear that you will have to "catch." These will be bonusses made available for individuals to earn aside from the monthly team bonus.

  • Examples of potential Gold Star Bonusses would be visa gift cards, dinner for two, nice bottles of wine (for those of age), tickets to sporting games and the like.

  • Potential examples of things required to "catch a Gold Star" are the most sales in a week, the most points collected in a week, most google reviews collected, reach a certain level of points and "win" (this allows for multiple winners), etc.

  • These bonusses make it easier for me to "steer the ship" so to speak. I believe strongly in rewarding people for doing good work that leads to growth in the areas of the company that matter. Gold Star Bonus is how I accomplish that.

Work Hours

  • 1-2 days at the office. These will 8 hour days. There always needs to be a Designer at the office so you may be required to work more days at the office but shouldn't need to do more than 2 days in a week.

  • The rest of the time is on a work from home basis. You can set your own hours but a schedule needs to be set and approved for your home work hours so I know when you are working. This helps with communication while you are working from home.

  • A total of 36 hours a week needs to be scheduled.

Paid Time Off

  • 136 hours (17 eight hour days) paid time off fully earned once achieving Level 1 Designer. The 136 hours is intended to be used as 14 days paid vacation and 3 days paid sick leave but can be used as you see fit.

  • PTO that is being used for vacation time needs to be approved at least 2 business days in advance.

  • PTO used for sick leave doesn't need to be pre-approved. If more than 24 hours (3 days) of sick leave is taken without notice and preapproval a doctors note will be required to avoid disciplinary action.

Health Benefits

  • Because KB Designs is a start up in it's 2nd year of business I can't promise health benefits.

  • What I can say is that I intend to have health insurance available for all full time employees before the end of 2025.

  • Your efforts as a designer will go a long way to helping make health benefits available for everyone.
